What is the Open Source Program?

CKEditor is available under the GPL 2+ license, allowing most open-source projects to start using the editor immediately.

However, if your project has specific licensing requirements that aren’t compatible with GPL 2+, our Open Source Program offers a tailored license solution.

Program Qualifications

  • The project is released under an OSI-approved Open Source license incompatible with GPL2+
  • The project’s revenue is less than $2M per year and/or total venture capital funding is less than $2M
  • The project does not receive a majority of its funding from an organization whose revenue is over $2M a year

CKEditor 5 is dual-licensed and distributed under either a commercial license or an Open Source copyleft license.

Open Source license

The open source distribution of CKEditor is licensed under the terms of GPL 2+. If you plan to use CKEditor under this license, you can register your application using the CKEditor GPL 2+ license registration form.

If you are running an open source project with an OSS license incompatible with GPL please fill out the form to contact us – we will be happy to support your project with a CKEditor 5 open source license that works for you.

Note: the CKEditor Free Plan is licensed under the GPL 2+ license.

Commercial license

Available with Essential, Professional and Custom sales-assisted plans, commercial license allows the white label implementation of CKEditor without requiring to share source code with the public in any way.

Many changes to your plan and account are available in the customer portal. If you require any additional assistance in upgrading or changing your account, please get in touch with our support team.

Yes, you are able to cancel your subscription at any time during the term of your agreement. However, the cancellation will only take effect at the end of your subscription term, and at that point, you will no longer be charged. You are not eligible for a refund on any unused amount remaining in your subscription term.
